Aubameyang Fires Dortmund Past Milan In ICC Clash

By Izuchukwu Okosi:

German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund began their International Champions Cup on a promising note with a 3-1 defeat of AC Milan on Tuesday at the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center Central Stadium in China.

Forward Ousmane Dembele was at the end of some goal scoring chances in the ten minutes but it was Nuri Sahin, Pierre-Emerick Abameyang (brace) that scored for the Dortmund side, while Carlos Bacca scored Milan’s only goal.

The German side’s persistence paid off in the 16th minute when Sahin put them ahead, firing a shot from outside of the penalty area after receiving a great pass from Christian Pulisic.

Aubameyang doubled the lead just four minutes later scoring from the penalty spot following the foul on Pulisic inside the penalty box by AC Milan defender Gabriel Paletta.

Bacca got a goal back for AC Milan in the 24th minute when he shrugged off his defenders to hit a low shot to the bottom left corner beyond Dortmund keeper, Roman Weidenfeller.

The first half ended with AC Milan, who have invested heavily in their squad this summer, having two shots on target to Dortmund’s four.

A counter attacking move straight from a corner kick resulted in the third goal for Dortmund in the 62nd minute.

Gonzalo Castro raced towards the Milan defence, found Pulisic who laid a pass in front of the goal for Aubameyang to convert against the Italian side he joined as a youth player in January 2007.
