The speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke, has express his satisfaction on the commitments showed by Deacon Udom Emmanuel on his re-invigorate Agriculture, Agro-allied equipment, soft loan and distribution of special species of crops to farmers by making the sector attractive and responsive to national requirements. The efforts of the government to acquire fertilizers and distribute same to reach end-users and generate output to ensure a sustainable food supply for consumption as well as provide raw materials has showed sincerity in this policy.
The speaker made this known on Thursday 11th May, 2017 and distributed 300 bags of fertilizers and 100 bags of certified Maize Seeds to over 100 farmers across the (10) ten wards in Nsit Ubium local government area in his constituency office, Ikot Edibon.
The speaker reiterated his commitment to key into the vision of the governor and promise to incorporate and encourage farmers in his constituency in taking active part on this policy.
The speaker represented by his Personal Assistant I, Mr James Ibiok, said that the state had taken strides in re-positioning the agricultural sector to its prime place. He said that it was the critical role that agriculture played in the state economy that informed the need to prioritise its five point economic agenda with agriculture providing the pivot to wealth creation, poverty alleviation and job creation. “For me, it is already given, that agriculture will not only form the bedrock of my administration’s policy, but will also remain the major pre-occupation of our active populace.
“I consider the agricultural sector as the true foundation of our local economy, given its huge potential to create value chain and sustain every other sector of the economy, Nsit Ubium local government can’t be at the watch mode in the drive of reducing the price of food stuff in the state but in the train of turning Nsit Ubium as the food centre of the state”, he said.
The speaker reminded them that they should make sure they avail themselves of the ongoing voters’ registration and promised that under the watch of Deacon Udom Emmanuel, through him the government will continue to provide the farmers with the needed farm inputs to drive hunger out of Nsit Ubium and Akwa Ibom State in particular.
Responding separately on behalf of the beneficiaries, Goodgift Aniefiok from Ibaikpan II, Idorenyin Sunday Hanson from Nung Obong and Mr Etukudoh S. Inyang, thanking the speaker for the gesture being the first, pledging farmers unalloyed support to Deacon Udom Emmanuel.
