Hon.(Mrs.) Owoidighe Ekpoattai Member Representing Eket Federal Constituency |
Youths of Eket Federal Constituency, a coalition of youths from Eket, ONNA, Ibeno and Esit Eket local government areas, under the aegis of Eket Federal Constituent Youths Consultative Assembly (EFECCOA) have reacted angrily to an attempt by a faceless blackmail syndicate group going by the name Eket Federal Constituency Initiative led by the duo of one Emem Edoho and a certain Samingo Etukakpan to smear the hard earned reputation of the member representing Eket Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon.(Mrs.) Owoidighe Ekpoattai.
The youths, in a statement signed by its chairman, Barr. Felix Anana and Secretary, Mr. Patrick Ekpo and made available to this reporter said the uncanny activities of this group whose stock in trade is to blackmail public figures in order to extort money from them came to the fore recently when they started going round the federal constituency trying to woo unwary elders to call the honorable member to render account of her stewardship in the House.
The youths reasoned that being very knowledgeable and highly educated, Mrs. Ekpoattai, a grassroots politician who knows perfectly the tenets of representative government, does not need anybody, talk-less of a faceless group, to tell her to render account of her stewardship.
“She knows when it is appropriate to do so. After all, did anybody suggest to the woman when she recently embarked on free medical treatment for members of the constituency, young and old, a programme estimated at several millions of naira? Where were these people when Hon. Ekpoattai distributed free empowerment items ranging from clothing, food items, and motorcycles, sewing machines to scholarships and grants to members of the constituency? “The statement queried.
The youth group recalled that the same blackmail syndicate who are bent on destroying everything good in the Federal Constituency as well as in Eket senatorial district were the ones who kick- started the attempt to blackmail Obong Nsima Ekere out of favour with President Buhari in order to stop his (Nsima’s) confirmation and appointment as Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The idle blackmailers, the group pointed out, were equally behind the petitions and blackmail that characterized Hon. Ibanga Etang’s administration in Esit Eket local government during the last dispensation.
The youth group was therefore unequivocal in their warning to the group that they would not fail to exact their own pound of flesh from the hungry blackmailers if they do not desist from their criminal distraction of the Hon. House member who, they said, is doing marvellously well for the constituency.
