Reading all the noises posted on the social media by the so-called supporters of Umana Okon Umana, one may be tempted to believe in their stories that simply because the Appeal Court has ordered a re-run election, therefore Umana Okon Umana is automatically the next governor of Akwa Ibom State; what a wishful thinking!
What the supporters of Umana Okon Umana do not know is that the order for a re-run is a curse on the head Umana, whom God wants to destroy by having him spend all the money he accumulated in fraudulent deals when he was a high-ranking official in the employ of Akwa Ibom State Government. If Umana Okon Umana comes out to explain the source of funding for his political campaign, I will issue an apology for this statement. Until then, I stand by my statement.
Only a person, who is blinded by gullibility, can deny the simple truth that even if election is held a million times, Umana Okon Umana will lose a million times.
First, where is Umana Okon Umana going to get the votes that would enable his victory over Governor Udom Emmanuel?
The Eket Senatorial District will never abandon its own son (Udom) to lend its support for Umana. To expect such is nothing but wishful thinking. As a proof, all that is needed is a glimpse at the development strides Governor Udom has brought to the people and all the communities of Ekom Imman within the last six months.
The people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District will never give their votes to Umana. As I wrote few months ago, the Ibibio of Annang extractions, unlike the Ibibio-Ibibio extraction, would readily close ranks to support their own, if it comes to a matter of “us versus them.”
As it stands, and if all the news reports are correct, Akpabio is willing to throw his unconditional support for Udom Emmanuel; his brethren will definitely support whoever Akpabio supports.
Besides, (I stand corrected) Udom Emmanuel’s wife is of Annang extraction. Anyone who overlooks the importance of the influence of the wife of a governor among her own people must be living in fantasy land.
Even though Umana is from Uyo Senatorial District, he can never win the majority votes because of several factors. First and foremost is the serious division among voters in the district.
With Senator Bassey Albert Akpan in a strong control of Ibiono Local Government Area, Umana does not stand a chance for victory in such a huge LGA, because Senator Bassey Akpan is a strong supporter of Governor Udom Emmanuel.
With the influence of Senator John Akpanudoedehe among the voters in Uyo proper, and when one remembers the dubious tactics with which Umana Okon Umana used during the APC Primary Election earlier this year, it is doubtful that the Uyo community will support Umana Okon Umana enough to give him adequate votes to beat Udom Emmanuel.
In Ubium Clan, the movers and shakers of the Clan, such as Senator Effiong Bob, Udom Inoyo, and Hon. Emmanuel Ibiok (just to mention three) will make sure that Umana’s candidacy is dead on arrival.
Not too long ago, Hon. Uwem Ita Etuk swore that if a re-run is ordered, he would use all his influence to make sure that Umana Okon Umana does not secure victory in his Ibesikpo LGA. As we know, Uwem Ita Etuk is a member of Udom’s Cabinet and it is assured that he will stand by his promise.
Many political leaders in Etinan LGA cannot stand Umana. Political leaders, such as Hon. Sam Ikon, had vouched that his loyalty to and support for Udom Emmanuel remain unfettered.
Another strong odd against Umana Okon Umana is the deep division within the Akwa Ibom State APC party. To believe that Umana can go into a re-run and win the governorship election on the platform of a party so deeply divided is nothing but wishful thinking.
On top of all the odds against Umana are all the job opportunities Udom has created in the State within the last six months. His 5-Point Agenda turned out to be superb economic and social blue-prints towards the development of Akwa Ibom State.
His “Dakada” initiative is unbeatable.
Last month, he made sure that citizens whose land and other real estate properties were taken under the principle of eminent domain were adequately compensated; everyone smiled.
Here is the big question: Since the governorship election of April 11, 2015, other than hiding in Abuja, with occasional visits to Akwa Ibom State for fanfare, what has Umana Okon Umana done for the people to deserve being elected a governor?
With all the above in mind, and other reasons not mentioned here, Umana Okon Umana will not win in the re-run, even if it is conducted zillions of times.
