All is set for the grand reception of the Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, as the Ibibio nation have set aside Monday, July 10, 2017 to formally receive him and the first Lady, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel.
In a release made available to newsmen, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the Grand reception and former Military administrator of the State, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga revealed that, The Ibibio Nation, which is the dominant tribe in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria’s 4th largest ethnic group, is yielding to pressure from stakeholders and leaders to accord the governor the deserved honour in view of his sterling performance in just two years in office..
Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, explained that, the Ibibio Nation will use the occasion as a show of strength and to demonstrate their oneness in support of an illustrious son who has been justified the popular mandate the people of Akwa Ibom State freely gave him having effectively delivered above expectation in the last two years.
According to Nkanga, Governor Udom Emmanuel has done so well, “… despite challenging economic times, and has remained resolute in his pursuit of people-oriented governance and sustainable development in Akwa Ibom State after just 24months in office.”
He further added that, “Governor Emmanuel has brought to bear his wealth of knowledge and experience to keep the State’s economy afloat, with bold footprints in the industrial, agricultural and other sectors. Recall that the National Bureau of Statistics in its 2017 reports listed Akwa Ibom as the state that attracted the highest Foreign Direct Investment in Nigeria in 2016 after the commercial capital of Nigeria.”
Impeccable sources say, the hierarchy of Ibibio Nation are likely to endorse Governor Udom Emmanuel for a second term in office for the 2019 General elections, following a precedent, when the erstwhile governor of the state and current Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio got endorsement for a second term in office during a similar reception by the Ibibio Nation on October 10, 2009.
The eevent which will have a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Nsikak Eduok as the Chairman of the occasion and former governors, Obong Victor Attah and Senator Godswill Akpabio as Special Guests, will also attract eminent personalities from all over the State and Nigeria, including political associates of the governor, captains of industry and a coalition of other socio cultural groups, women groups and youth organizations, traditional and religious leaders, students groups and members of the Peoples Democratic Party from all over the country.
