.Yes, we’re getting calls from some of our brothers that defected – Paul Ekpo

The recent Supreme Court judgements, upholding the elections of Mr. David Umahi of Ebonyi State and his Rivers state counterpart, Barr. Nyesome Wike, has sent shockwaves to the camp of the Akwa Ibom State defeated candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Obong Umana Okon Umana, as some of his opportunist friends who have quickly read the writing on the wall have already withdrawn their money induced support.

Most of those already itching to return to PDP are saying they only went to benefit from the cash-rain the former SSG was showering on those supporting his failed mission.

Reacting to the judgement, the prodigal politicians stated that they only pretended as supporting the opposition party to get the benefit that their principal was giving, adding that the tempting idea of using the federal might to wrestle power from the PDP which they said their principal had convincingly assured them were also part of the reasons they supported Umana.

Speaking to this correspondent, a former local government chairman from Oro nation said “see, my brother, don’t be deceived, none of us supported Umana from our heart. We only go there to benefit from the money he throws about. If some of the big people you see pretending to be supporting him would be sincere to you, they will tell you that the only do so to be relevant since they (APC) had made us to believe that there was no way PDP can scale through at the court basing their argument on the Rivers example”.

An aide to a former federal lawmaker in Eket Senatorial District in a chat with our reporter further hinted that even his boss who asked him to mobilize other youths in his village to support the APC was doing so with the hope that he will get an appointment but that he has regretted his action as he was now considering plotting his way back to the PDP.

Meanwhile, other young people who took to the social media have berated the APC over their propaganda, maintaining that the recent Supreme Court judgement has exposed the APC, as it was clear that the Supreme Court judgement does not depend on propaganda and lies on the internet.

Meanwhile a visit to Ibom Plaza, the popular melting point of APC members in Uyo witnessed scanty members of the public who looked too shocked to comment on the verdict of the Rivers election,  especially as they had earlier given critical analysis on why Wike would not survive the Supreme Court.

Some who manage to air their opinion expressed mixed reactions over the possible outcome of the Akwa Ibom state case at the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, confiding, with this reporter, a core APC supporter in the state said that the verdict of the Supreme Court has unsettled the APC in the state as their hope has been dashed.

He added that, already, there were some contentions among some of the members and the newly defected ones who are fighting for supremacy and who to take up which appointment even when they are yet to get grasp of power.

He however maintained that some of the recently defected members to the APC have already started making some suspicious moves that lends credence to the fact that they were only in search for greener pastures in the party and have started asserting their influence.

He said that one of the defectors whom he said was a former top PDP member had barely within his few weeks of joining the party stormed out of a stakeholders meeting when the position he lobbied for was declared not vacant, claiming that he can still return to his former party and still be relevant thereby forcing Obong Umana to admit that he was beginning to believe that “truly, some of the defectors were on a spy mission” in his camp.

Meanwhile the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Obong Paul Ekpo, has confirmed that he had received calls from some of the former PDP members that defected from the party. Obong Ekpo said he was so surprise at such display of instability by politicians.

Obong Ekpo said the decision to readmit them in the party can only be taken at the enlarge caucus of the party, as he could not solely take such decision.

He however declined mentioning the names of those gunning to return to the party but hinted that he has insisted that rather than nicodemously creeping back, they should also attend the upcoming Uyo Senatorial District reception ceremony organised for Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Information from the grapevine hinted that two former Chairmen from Eket Senatorial District, a former House of Representative member, a former high ranking chieftain of the PDP are among those rumoured to be returning to the party.
