The Akwa Ibom State Government has fulfilled the pledge to deliver world class medical supplies and equipment to upgrade standard of healthcare services to the people.
The Chief Medical Director of Immanuel Hospital Eket, Dr Michael Ukpe, dropped this hint, when the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Research and Documentation, Mr Emmanuel Nicholas, led newsmen on the a visit to the hospital to take record of the state government’s intervention in the hospital.
Conducting newsmen around the hospital and the medical supplies received by the hospital, Dr Ukpe, who was accompanied by the Chief Matron of the Hospital, Mrs Ime Sampson, expressed delight at the supplies and thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for the gesture which he described as a welcome development.
The Chief Medical Director observed that, but for this timely intervention by the State Governor, the hospital was at a point of near total collapse, given the decay of infrastructure in the hospital, which he says, serves countless numbers around the state.
Dr Ukpe added that, with the supply of the medical facilities, which he said, are state – of the – art and modern, Immanuel hospital Eket is repositioned and poised to deliver more and better quality services to meet the health care needs of the people.
Dr Ukpe assured that, the equipments will be put to the best use and will be be properly managed and maintained.
Earlier at the General Hospital Etinan, the Chief Nursing Superintendent, Mr Moses Akpan and the Secretary of the hospital, Mrs Benedict Uyoh, were on hand to receive and conduct the team on a facility tour of the Hospital.
Mr Moses Akpan who was full of praise for the governor, said that, the lost glory of the General Hospital Etinan has been restored. He stressed that, after massive renovation of virtually all the blocks of the Hospital, Governor Udom Emmanuel, has kept his promise of equipping the Hospital with top range medical facilities as can be found anywhere in the world. He said, the staff and management of the Hospital are overwhelmed by the commitment of the State government to strengthen the Healthcare sector for better services to the people.
Some of the sophisticated equipments supplied in good numbers to both hospitals include ; delivery beds, infant warmers, Hoyer body lifter, digital endoscopy cartography machines, electric adjustable beds, surgical facilities and consumables comprising mainly antiseptics and other disposable items.
A cross section of patients who commented on the development said they were extremely pleased and looking forward to receiving better quality services in the future and commended the State government for being proactive in its development of the health sector.
