BLACKMAIL: FG TO 'DEAL' WITH EX-UNIUYO VC, PROF COMFORT EKPO

Following the outcome of the report by a special committee set up by the federal government to look into allegations of misconduct leveled against the incumbent Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Enefiok Essien  by a group known as the integrity group and the Ex-Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof Comfort Ekpo, the federal government has directed that the former VC Comfort Ekpo be immediately reprimand the former VC, Prof. Comfort Ekpo over what it described as her malicious, vindictive divisive and spurious situation report which she submitted ahead of Prof. Enefiok Essien’s assumption of office a year ago.

The Special Committee in a report made available to the media in Uyo described Prof. Comfort Ekpo’s action as unacceptable and exonerated the incumbent VC of any misconduct.

It will be recalled that the group shortly after the emergence of Prof. Enefiok Essien as the new Vice Chancellor of the University, petitioned him on allegation of love overture, forgery, manipulation of the selection process to the office of the VC of the University, tension and uneasy calm in the university.

The senate of the University had earlier suspended the former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Comfort Ekpo for not writing to the authorities of the university before embarking on sabbatical leave immediately after her tenure.

Meanwhile, the incumbent Vice Chancellor recently hosted the university community to a thanksgiving service for a successful one year in office.

The event which was well attended by academics, the Business community, top politicians to include Distinguished Senator Bassey Albert, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East{Uyo} Senatorial District and chair, Senate committee on Gas Resources.

Prof. Essien’s one year in office has witnessed tremendous calm for conducive learning,  increase in the security on campus especially at night to allow students read with ease, recovering the university land from people encroaching into it through demolition of structures on the university land, incisive public lectures,  tackling staff concerns both academic and non academic and generally increasing students welfare among others.
