A ray of hope beckons on Clerics in Akwa Ibom State who served in the vineyard of God as the state Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has initiated a welfare package to accommodate them.
This was a fall out of a Gala and Award Night put together by the Family Empowerment and Re-Orientation Programme ( FEYREP), a - pet project of the wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, to mark the one year anniversary of the programme held at Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo.
Governor Emmanuel who clinched an Award as the pillar of FEYREP, congratulated the Organisation on it vision to touch the lives of humanity as well as the less- privileged members of the society and particularly lauded his wife Martha - the initiator and founder of FEYREP for the achievements recorded.
Mr Emmanuel thanked the donor partners for their support which he said has enable the organisation achieve it objectives and pledged to continue to identify with the vision of the Organisation by empowering one hundred and fifty - five persons on quarterly basis as his contribution to charity.
He used the occasion to assure the people that the country would soon come out of the present economic downturn and called for a conceited effort by all to wither the present economic crunch, by investing in agriculture.
Speaking earlier, the founder and initiator of FEYREP, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel said the occasion was part of events to mark the one year anniversary of the Programme.
She expressed appreciation to God, public spirited individuals and donor Agencies for sustaining the vision.
Mrs Martha Emmanuel particularly thanked her husband for the encouragement and all round support given her and presented an award as the Pillar of FEYREP to the Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel.
Also, the wife of the Commissioner for Works and the Programme Co-ordinator Mrs Ime Ephraim Inyang, described FEYREP as one of God's fingers that has touched the lives of the vulnerable members of the the society with it multi- faceted programmes including Medicare, Empowerment, Skill Acquisition and girl child advocacy programmes.
Mrs Inyang commended Mrs Martha Emmanuel for the vision, the Governor for the enablement and Donor Agencies for their support to the Organisation.
Other speakers including the Deputy Governor, Mr Mosses Ekpo and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Onofiok Luke, commended the facilitators of the programme for stepping out of their comfort zones to impact on the lives of the needy.
Barrister Onofiok Luke spoke of FEYREP as the flagship of the administration which has given succour to the under privileged adding that the programme complement activities of the Political class by reaching out to those who are often neglected in the society.
Messages of felicitations were presented by Commissioner for Women Development And Social Welfare , Dr Glory Edet and Chairman, Governing Council Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Dr Akon Eyakenyi.
The Gala Night which featured musical and Drama shows climaxed with the presentation of award of commendation to Elder Essien Ukut who donated land for the building of a House for a widow in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, the Pro- Health International, Neimeth Pharmaceuticals and MTN Foundation, for their assistance to the Organisation.
