Are you a young man?
Do you like sex without ejaculation, alongside drinking of alcohol (especially beer), and smoking of cigarettes, as if your life depends on them?
Then, my news report will be of interest to you, as you grow older.
A medical expert, Dr. Enobong Udo, has advised men to avoid intense sexual excitement without a natural conclusion of ejaculation.
Speaking with me in an exclusive interview in Uyo, today, Dr. Udo said the advice became necessary because continued excitement without ejaculation causes "engorgement of the prostate gland, which can lead to structural and functional damage."
Dr. Udo, who is of the University of Uyo, said when ejaculation during sexual intercourse moves from being a pleasurable experience to a painful one, then, there is the need to seek urgent medical attention.
"Reason is because there are indications that one form of health challenge or another has set in. Chances are that it might even be a prostate problem." Dr. Udo said.
On the importance of exercise for a healthy prostate, he said that walking was beneficial.
"The movement of muscles and organs in the pelvic cavity during walking, helps circulation to and from the gland. Constant sitting during most of your childhood and adult life, only adds to your chances of having prostate problems. It is good to develop regularity in sexual if possible." He explained.
According to him, "to prevent a recurrence of chronic prostatitis and promote prostate health, men should take warm sitz baths, drink more water; dehydration stresses the prostate. Avoid prolonged bicycle riding, horseback riding or other exercises that irritate the region the prostate.
He advised patients with prostate diseases to see a medical expert, in order to ensure that the problem is benign and not neoplastic. "The symptoms can lead you to suspect an enlarged or infected prostate. If allowed to progress, prostate problems can lead to bladder stones, generalized infection or kidney failure.
The medical doctor warned that "an enlarged prostate can be a sign of cancer", saying when the symptoms are severe or there's evidence of cancer, surgery is usually recommended.
Dr. Udo stated that although there have been no clinical trials on the use of diets in the treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), the diets should be high in protein, low in carbohydrates, low in animal fats and high in essential fatty acids.
He also recommended eating of plenty of fruits, vegetables, fishes, juices, unprocessed foods such as whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds.
Dr. Udo advised against eating of meats, saying that a diet rich in meats, either beef or poultry, can cause problems.
As man advances in age, the prostate gland tends to increase in size. Till date, studies have not established why this is so. Experts suspect that the endocrine system plays a major role.
Among the roles the prostate perform is to squeeze fluid into the urethra, as sperm move through during sexual climax.
This fluid, which helps make up semen, energizes the sperm and makes the vaginal canal less acidic.
It is common for the prostate gland to become enlarged as a man ages. Doctors refer to this condition as Benign Prostatitic Hyperplasia or Benign Prostatitic Hypertrophy.
Dr. Udo said "the more significant the overgrowth of the tissue becomes, the more difficult men will have in getting urine stream started, maintaining a strong and forceful flow, and stopping the flow without dribbles and spurs of urine.
He explained that with time, "the enlarged gland can protrude into the bladder, often partially blocking the opening to the urethra within the bladder and making it difficult for the bladder to completely empty."
"Afterwards, the urine remaining in the bladder after urination forms a hospitable environment for bacterial growth as well as for the formation of sediment that could lead to bladder gravel or stones.
