Underground plots by the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Akwa Ibom state to drag the former NDDC Managing Director, Barr. Dan Abia into the 2019 Governorship race have been uncovered.
Global Pilot investigations reveal that the APC stakeholders in the state are busy clearing the bush around the Esit-Eket born politician who they intend to bring on as the party’s joker in 2019 governorship elections in the state.
Reason for the alleged dumping of Mr Umana Umana, follows his inability to create any significant impact in the 2015 governorship election, having to lose in his own polling unit and local government.
Another reason is the consistent emphasis by the overwhelming majority of the people of the state, that power must remain in Eket Senatorial District for eight uninterrupted years.
The APC schemers who are scared that Umana stands no chance in the face of the popularity of zoning, have decided to bring on the sacked NDDC MD as a bait, with a possibility of a running mate from Uyo senatorial district.
A source in the camp of the former SSG hinted that “we have seen that our former candidate Umana Umana has been unable to curry favour from the Presidency, since the allegations of massive corrupt enrichment against him which has apparently made him persona non grata at the Presidency and we don’t need any prophet to advise us to leave him with his cross and move on.”
Moreover our inside source reasoned that, “Governor Emmanuel has been able to impress the people as a performer, and it will not be easy to have his seat challenged by the same person who lost woefully to him last year.”
Bassey Dan Abia is said to have bought into the scheme, and has allegedly commenced lobby within and outside the state, prompting a report on some local newspapers of his nocturnal movements.
Recently, a newspaper and an online news medium had carried a story with the caption “Dan Abia joins 2019 Guber Race.”
The news medium in its report alleged that the immediate past Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Comission (NDDC), Barr. Dan Abia was nursing a governorship ambition.
While the news of his intended ambition has been trending ever since, Barr. Dan Abia has not refuted the publication. This was observed by an elder in the area who would not want his name in print.
In refuting the report, the member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno in the House of Assembly, Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh, described the story as “cheap blackmail orchestrated by agents of doom whose motive is to cause disaffection between Barr. Dan Abia and the government of Governor Udom Emmanuel.”
But countering the lawmaker’s claim, a youth in the area, Ubong Edoho wondered why the person in question, Barr. Dan Abia has not come out to deny the story by himself.
“Since Dan Abia was dropped from office as NDDC MD, he has not publicly identified himself with the PDP at all, whether in his village, local government, state or national level.
“We have information that he had since joined APC and he is being positioned to fly the party’s flag in 2019 against our Governor,” he said.
