Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has called on the Judiciary to fashion out modalities that would facilitate the quick dispensation of justice emphasising that delay of Justice amount to violation of individual's right to freedom.
Governor Emmanuel made the call when he administered Oath of Office to two new High Court Judges, Justice Nsemeke Daniel and Justice Aniekan Akpan,Akpan who were appointed into the State Judiciary, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo.
The Governor, while congratulating the new members of the bench, charged the Judiciary to look into the decongestion of prisons by ensuring that awaiting trial cases are treated noting that often times the innocent are made to suffer while the culprit goes Scot free and reiterated his administration's determination to ensure the sustenance of harmonious relationship between the Executive and other arms of Government.
In an interview with Government House Correspondents, shortly after Swearing-in of the Judges, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barister Uwemedimo Nwoko, congratulated the new Judges on their elevation and expressed optimism that they would inject fresh ideas to aid in the smooth operations of the Judiciary.
The Attorney General said modalities have been put in place to facilitate the decongestion of Prisons in line with the stipulated procedures adding that the task before the Judiciary in the quick dispensation of justice does not lie with the Judges alone but requires synergy among the Stakeholders in the Judicial system.
