Zaha: Liverpool, Man United Fans Called Me Black Monkey

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha has claimed that a set of Manchester United and Liverpool fans racially abused him on social media on Saturday.

The Cote d’Ivoire winger, 24, was in action in the Premier League Asia Trophy in Hong Kong on Saturday but he was not up against United or Liverpool, although Palace lost to Liverpool days earlier.

It is therefore a mystery what prompted the fans of these clubs to call Zaha a “black monkey” in vile social media posts.

“If Man United and Liverpool fans feel better by calling me a black monkey in my messages .. feel free to carry on if it makes your day better,” Zaha wrote on Instagram on Saturday.

Incidentally, new Palace manager Frank de Boer had accused West Brom players of targetting Zaha with bad tackles in Saturday’s win in the PL Asia Trophy third-place match.

Zaha signed for Manchester United in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson but was loaned back to Palace.

He found playing time hard to come by after Ferguson’s retirement and was eventually sold to Palace.
