Wenger: Sanchez Going Nowhere, We’ll Buy More Players

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that the club have no intention of selling their star Alexis Sanchez.

Sanchez, 28, scored 24 Premier League goals last season as the Gunners finished fifth and missed out on a Champions League place.

The Chile forward has however said he wants to play in the Champions League in the new season.
But, at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday ahead of a friendly with Bayern Munich, Wenger said: “The decision has been made and we will stick to that. The decision is not to sell.”

Wenger insisted that Sanchez should concentrate on how to help Arsenal get back into Europe’s top competition after missing out last season.

“I don’t give too much importance to things that are translated, you know,” Wenger said referring to Sanchez’s interview in Chile where he made it clear he was bent on leaving Arsenal. “The whole interview that I got didn’t really mean that.

“The main focus for us is to concentrate on the Premier League and the Premier League for me today is more important than the Champions League.

“We rested sometimes players in the Group stages of the Champions League for the Premier League so that’s become the biggest importance for us.

“For the rest… we played 20 years in the Champions League, that’s 17 years before Sanchez arrived and three years with him so he can get us back in there.”

Wenger, who has added Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette to the Arsenal squad this summer, says he is planning on making more signings.

“There are two ways to strengthen the squad – the first is to analyse where we have not done so well and where we can improve together, and the other way is to bring in players from outside,” Wenger told Arsenal Player. “We are still open to strengthening our team with players coming from outside.

“We are very active on the transfer market and have already realised two incomings. We have to keep a balance as well, that you don’t destabilise the team too much by bringing in too many players.

“But we are still active on the transfer market so let’s see what kind of opportunities we can find.”
