former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has taken his advocacy for restructuring of the country to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) with an assertion that restructuring is possible within six months and without undergoing any constitutional amendment.
He spoke as the guest lecturer at the 4th lecture series of the “Senior Staff Club” of the university which comprises 400 professors in various institutions of learning globally annexed to UNN.
Atiku stressed that as a means of redressing the prevailing decay in several public institutions like the tertiary institutions, the agricultural sector, the poor road network in the country, the Federal Government can easily hand over the institutions for maintenance and upkeep to the states and the local authorities.
The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Nnia Nwodo, who was the chairman of the occasion, said that it is worrisome that some well-placed Nigerians had misconstrued the advocacy for restructuring of the country to mean denying the North of oil revenue.
He said that if the abundant agricultural potential of the North were harnessed, the region would make Nigeria one of the best developed economies in the world, comparable to The Netherlands.
