Nigerian striker Junior Ajayi was on target as Al Ahly wrapped up the 2016/2017 Egyptian league season with a 2-0 win against rivals Zamalek 2-0 at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Monday.
Al Ahly had already been crowned champions and finished the season on 84 points in the 18-team league. The Cairo club won the title without losing any match of the 34 throughout the season.
Zamalek, who featured Nigerian pair Stanley Ohawuchi and Moruf Youssef in the team that faced Al Ahly, ended the campaign in the third position.
A goal in each half from Walid Soliman and Ajayi sealed the win for Al Ahly who will feature in next season’s CAF Champions League while Zamalek will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Soliman gave Al Ahly the lead in the 41st minute before Ajayi scored the winner in the 89th minute.
The goal was Ajayi’s eighth in 11 league appearances for Al Ahly in the just ended season.
Ajayi was a member of the Nigeria U-23s squad that won bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
