By James Agberebi:
Head Coach of the home-based Super Eagles Salisu Yusuf has praised the committment shown by the invited players ahead of the 2018 CHAN qualifier against Benin Republic, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The home-based Super Eagles had their first training session inside the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Tuesday with 25 players taking part.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, Yusuf stated that he and his technical crew will do everything possible to bring out the best in the players for the tie against Benin Republic.
Benin Republic will host the home-based Super Eagles on August 13 before coming to Nigeria for the return leg on August 19.
The winner in both legs will qualify for the 2018 CHAN taking place in Kenya.
“It was great (first training session) and we really appreciate the patriotism which the players have shown,” Yusuf began.
“The other players not here yet took permission. They have shown a lot of committment and we are really happy about that. We started our training today (Tuesday), and it is just to bring the body back because of the long journey and the matches they played in the last 48 hours.
“We are going to work very hard with the players because what they do in their clubs is different from what we are doing here (in camp). For them to grab our idea on how to play will take three to four days but I think they will grab it.”
Yusuf revealed that the team’s goalkeeper trainer Aloy Agu will join the camp today (Tuesday) after experiencing flight delay in Lagos.
“Aloy Agu will be here today (Tuesday) he had a little mixup in Lagos which has to do with flight but hopefully he will be here today.”
He also dismissed talks that the new goalkeeper coach that is being hired by the Nigeria Football Federation is coming to supervise Agu.
“The coming of a new goalkeeper coach is for us to work together and not to supervise Alloy which is good for the technical crew.”
