ITU SAGA: OPPOSITION PARTY CHAIRMEN CALLS FOR CEASEFIRE

.. As Gov Udom’s aide urge Itu people to register in the ongoing Voter’s card registration exercise.

Members of Opposition party in Akwa Ibom State have called on the factions causing unhealthy democratic governance in Itu Local Government Council to cease fire in the interest of peace and effective implementation of democratic dividends in the third tier of government.

This formed part of reaction by Engr Martin Inyang, Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Akwa Ibom State council when the body continued their assessment tour of 31 local government areas in the state today.

” IPAC is very much aware of the incident happening in Itu Local Government Area as a body regulated by the law, we also have the oversight functions to undertake intra party activities… For we to have good governance in Itu Local Government, those who are aggrieved in this matter must shield their sword,, if the Chairman of Itu could apologize, all of us do sin everyday and beg God to forgive, we come as a body to tell the entire leadership and good people of Itu Local Government Area let there be peace so that governance will exercise its enfranchise here at Itu Local Government Area ” He said.

It should be noted that Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) is the umbrella body of registered Political Parties in Nigeria which acts as a Reconciliation and mediation body, which also promotes peace and good governance.

Also speaking, the special adviser to Gov Udom Emmanuel on inter party affairs, Mr Lawrence Udoh who also double as the state Chairman of Mega Progressive Peoples party called on Itu people to make judicious use of the continous voters registration ongoing at Itu INEC office.

He made the reaction while speaking at council secretariat Mbak itu and at Itam Market. Mr Udoh charged the market women and men to continue supporting Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.

The group poured Encomiums on the Transition Chairman for performing above board, citing the construction of story building fitting market office in Itam Market, drainage system in Itam, empowerment of over 180 women and youths in agriculture, empowerment of 139 youths with grants and other life touching projects.

Speaking during the event, the Transition Committee Chairman of Itu Local Government Area Mrs Elsie Esara thanked His Excellence, Governor Udom Emmanuel and wife for giving her the opportunity to serve the people. She attributed all her achievements in the last few months to the Governor Udom Emmanuel and wife.

“I want to thank our governor and her excellence Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel they gave me this platform to display this performance, I want to thank Her Excellency a woman of integrity, a woman that has passion for the rural women, a woman that has passion for development, that is why I said I must key into the vision of her Excellence. I know with God all things are possible “she paused.

On how she managed the internal generated revenue (IGR) from the market and other revenue points she said” This project(Market Office) is the IGR from this market”.

Also speaking about the malicious dragging of the Governor’s wife name into a petition and media acrimony, she apologized to the Governor’s wife ” I also want to really apologize for those insinuation against Her Excellency, she is a woman of focus, a woman of integrity, I never said what they said, I never said I give her Excellence money, please if I may ask how much can I give to Her Excellency? How much do I really have? ” she asked rhetorically.

In attendance from the council were the Head of Service Mr Ala Amanawapi, Mr Wilson Uyo Director of Finance, Hon Patrick Ekpenyong Supervisor for chieftaincy affairs, Hon Nicholas Effiong Supervisor for Agriculture and Hon Udeme Utip Supervisor for Education.

On the IPAC entourage were the Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Interparty affairs Mr Lawrence Udoh, Chairman of CNPP and all chairmen of political party operating in Akwa Ibom State.
