The Akwa Ibom State Government is constructing a 90 meters cable bridge across the Ekpene-Ukpa River in Etinan LGA.
This was disclosed by the Honorable Commissioner for works Mr. Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-eyen when he took the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Appropriation today for an On-site inspection to ascertain the level of job done along the Etinan => Ndon Eyo dual carriageway undertaken by Wischinco Engineering (WE) Limited.
The committee members which were led by the chairman House Committee on Appropriation Hon. (Dr.) Usoro Akpanusoh commenced inspection from Etinan roundabout where the Honorable commissioner informed the committee that Julius Berger Plc. Is handling from the Etinan Roundabout to Ekom Iman/ Ikot Oku Ikono junction while CCECC is handling the Etinan=> Ndiya=> Eket Road.
He further took them to the Ekpene-Ukpa bridge were he intimated the committee that the bridge construction will commence in April and already the prefabrication of materials is ongoing which will make the job continue even during rainy season. He added that the Ekpene-Ukpa cable bridge will be such that it's illumination at night will be sighted from the state capital.
Speaking on behalf of the construction company, Mr. Eric Zhou assured that with timely release of funds, 80% completion of Etinan => Ndon Eyo road is guaranteed by the end of the year.
Responding, the Appropriation committee chairman said that with what he has seen, he is impressed that the ministry is discharging it's duties with prudence and not playing politics with projects.
The Honorable Member representing Etinan Hon. (Barr) Aniefiok Dennis who is also a member of the house committee on Appropriation expressed his appreciation to His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel for the magnitude of projects cutting across his constituency and thank him for Ekpene-Ukpa cable bridge which will be the first of its kind in the region. He assured the commissioner that as a member of that committee, he will work assiduously with his colleagues to ensure funds are appropriated for the completion of the projects as well as for payments of compensation remaining for the Etinan=> Uyo and Etinan => Roads.
The AKHA Appropriation committee train later moved to Onna => Eket => Ibeno Road =>Eket Metropolis => Ikot Ekpan Ubium => Ndiya Bridge and ended back at Etinan roundabout.
Among the delegations were members of the house committee on Appropriation which included Hon. (Barr) Ime Okon (Deputy Chairman, house committee on Appropriation) Hon. David Lawrence (Member, Eket), Rt. Hon. Comrade Friday Iwok (Member, Abak) and management/Staff of Ministry of works.
