...AS RECTOR HARPS PARLIAMENTARIANS ON EFFECTIVE LAWMAKING
The Third Republic Parliament of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Ikot Ekpene LGA has been constituted with a charge to make laws that will have positive bearing in the state owned institution.
The Rector of the institution, Barr. Dr. Isreal Affia gave the charge yesterday during the inaugural ceremony of the Third Republic Parliamentarians held at the institution's auditorium.
Speaking further, the students' friendly rector expressed satisfaction in the composition of the parliament, stressing that, the quality of persons elected to man key positions in the parliament would translate into positive lawmaking which will change the face of the institution in all its ramifications.
" I salute the peaceful and smooth conduct of the parliamentary election which have led to today's inauguration and, congratulate all of you for making it to this hallowed chambers as honourable lawmakers. It's also my belief that the qualitative composition of key officers for this parliament would translate to quality enactment of laws that would continue to promote all round development in our institution", he said.
Dr. Affia while assuring the newly inaugurated parliamentarians of the management's resolve to partner with them, urged them to discharge their constitutional responsibility effectively, noting that, he would be gladdened if they (The Third Republic Parliamentarians ) could surpass the achievement of the outgoing parliamentary session.
"I urge you to take this opportunity as a prelude to macro state or national assignment in the nearest future. My prayers is to hear that you one-day become the State House of Assembly members, Reps or Senators - that would be my pride", he added.
The two-term rector, however, called on the returning students on the campus to take advantage of the institution's hostel accommodation, adding that, necessary
