SOCIAL SECTOR TAKES LEAD, AS MDA's DEFEND 2017 BUDGET AT A'IBOM ASSEMBLY, WEDNESDAY

Budget defense exercise on the 2017 appropriation  by ministries, department and agencies of government will commence tomorrow, Wednesday 18 January, 2017 at the conference room of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

The exercise which is at the instance of the House Committee on Appropriation and Finance, will afford heads of the MDA's and relevant parastatals of government an opportunity to defend the fiscal estimates of their organisation and as well brief the lawmakers on the performance index of their MDA's in the previous year, marching same with the funds they were able to access.

Taking the lead in tomorrow's budget defence are ten ministries, boards and agency of government that has been categorized into the Social sector. They include, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social welfare, Ministry of Health, and Hospital Management Board. Others are, Local Government Service commission, State Agency for the control of Aids (SACA),  Akwa Ibom State Life Enhancement Agency,  as well as Local Government Pension Board.
The exercise is a normal parliamentary practice aimed at guiding the lawmakers in appropriation of funds for the smooth running of  government business.

 Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udo, earlier today led principal staff in the ministry and heads of parastatal and other Information dissemination  machinery of government including the AKBC, Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation, Ethical and Attitudinal Re-orientation Agency, EARCOM, and the Government Printing Press to the House of Assembly where they defended their fiscal estimate for 2017 before the House Committee on Information.
