-To launch first phase of Constituency empowerment
The member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Otobong Ndem has disclosed that he will inaugurate his constituency office this January.
Hon. Ndem, who made the disclosure yesterday, while inspecting the ongoing finishing touches at the constituency office in Mkpat Enin, also said that he will use the inauguration to launch the first phase of his empowerment programmes for his constituents.
He opined that the constituency office will serve as a meeting point for him and his constituents as well as enhance regular interface between him and his constituents, adding that his is committed to bringing government closer to the people.
"I want to assure the good people of Mkpat Enin that I will do everything within my powers to ensure that they fully enjoy the benefits of their labour. Governance is about the wellbeing of the people and I'm working to ensure that Mkpat Enin people are carried along in government.
"Once we inaugurate this constitiency office, people will be employed to work. Most of my constituents who cannot come to Uyo to meet, will have access to me regularly in this office. Here, we will all feel at home.
"More importantly, I also intend to use the event to launch the first phase of my empowerment programmes. I have done various empowerment programmes before now, but what we are about to start this January will be more massive and will accommodate the various demands of the people", he said.
The lawmaker, however emphasized that the empowerments will center on the youths, adding that he intends to discontinue with era where the youths will labour only for the elders to come and reap.
He further said that it is impossible for everybody to benefit at once, hence the reason he chose to carry out the empowerment programmes in phases, appealing that the people should be patient as everybody will be carried along in time.
"Let emphasize that my empowerment programmes will mostly center on the youths because elections are won or lost on the strength of the youths. The youths are the ones who dare all the odds, take the risks during campaigns and elections. But I will try to capture the interest of the elders too".
