Players and officials of Akwa United FC have been charged to be good ambassadors of the state as the club enters final phase of preparations for the 2016/2017 Nigerian Professional Football League season.
An elder statesman, Sir Emem Akpabio made the assertion while interacting with the team at his Ukana country home, after a technical training session.
Akpabio recently donated an artificial turf for the club to train in preparation of the new campaign. Players of the team struggled to cope in most of their away games last season, as a result of non familiarity with artificial turfs.
Akwa United will face ABS of Ilorin on an artificial turf on the 15th of January. With 14 of the 20 NPFL teams playing their home games on artificial turf, the gesture by Akpabio has been hailed by many as remarkable.
