#BlackSaturday: Gov Emmanuel Showed Practical Love For His People

By Akwaowo Etebong
Since the tragic incident that rocked Akwa Ibom State last Saturday, involving the Reigners Bible Church Int'l along Uyo Village Road, resulting to the collapse of the church building during service for its 2016 International Convention, the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has been on ground for the safety of the citizens.

Governor Emmanuel, who attended the occasion when the incident occurred, miraculously vacated his seat before the roof of the church fell.

As soon as he left his seat, one of the falling roofs shattered the chair, while he hurriedly left the building unscathed and rushed out to get rescue equipment and supervised the rescue operations.

The Governor has practically showed that the life of every citizen of the state is of utmost importance to his administration. He went round all the hospitals and clinics where the victims were admitted including the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), St. Luke’s Hospital Anua, Uyo and Ibom Specialist Hospital, to meet the accident victims. He is not oblivious of the recession but sourced for assistance to ensure their recovery.

The Governor’s efforts yielded 99 percent success rate for all the injured victims as he was able to charter aircrafts to bring in neuro-surgeons from around the country, and also appealed for assistance from the Federal Government to help in the medical expenses of the victims.

Cladded in black attire to reflect the solemn mood which the incident had thrown the state into, Mr Emmanuel announced a two-day of mourning (Sunday and Monday) in honour of the victims of the collapsed church building and urged all to rally round those hospitalised, to ensure their recovery while praying for the state.

Governor Emmanuel, during a Solemn Assembly at the Government House Banquet Hall in honour of victims of the collapsed building, thanked God for honouring the covenant he made concerning his executive council members, maintaining that none of them died in the disaster, and reassured Akwa Ibom people not to be despaired by the occurrence as God is still with the state.

As Christians, we need not question God on why disasters occur but trust in His divine will in all situations and show empathy to the families whose loved ones are affected.

The total number of people that lost their lives in the ill-fated incident was 23. Even if it was a single life, it was still a significant loss to the Governor.

May their souls Rest In Peace!
