A'Ibom Assembly hands 3m Naira to Gov Udom to support Reigners Church victims

Lawmakers in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly are first to respond to Governor Udom Emmanuel's call to good-spirited members of the public to support the families of members of Reigners Bible Church who suffered last Saturday's mishap at the church.

Led by the Speaker of the House, Barr Onofiok Luke, the honourable members after plenary on Tuesday, handed Governor Emmanuel a cheque of 3m Naira as their contribution towards ameliorating the sufferings of some of the victims most of who are still being hospitalised.

Speaker Onofiok Luke consoled the governor, members of Reigners Bible Church, and the entire people of Akwa Ibom state on the sad incidence. Reading from Psalm 121:1, Barr. Luke reassured the people that "He that keepeth Akwa Ibom state neither slumbers nor sleeps"

Responding, Governor Emmanuel said the gesture form the lawmakers has strengthened him.

"This response has seriously strengthened me today. This show of togetherness, oneness and unity at this time of this calamity has actually made me know that God's purpose for our lives shall forecer remain fulfilled. Thank you for being the first for being the first to give us this financial support at tough times like this. This is a challenge to me that even as an individual, every member of my family must contribute to this. Even my children must support even from their picket money."

Twenty-one of the 26 members of the House of Assembly were present, including the House leadership.
