In a release issued at the end of joint meetings of Ikono People Consultative Forum (IPCF) and Ndiya Usung Ikot Idaha Elders Council held in Ikono L.G.A on 17th November, 2016, they unanimously frowned at the recent media publication which alleged that Ikono stakeholders have denounced Emmanuel Ukpongudo and accused him of anti-party activities.

The release, signed by Engr. Edet Umotong for IPCF and the Executives of Ndiya/Ikot Idaha Elders Council including Ward 8 PDP Executive Committee, stated that “Obong Emmanuel Ukpongudo popularly known as Marcaire is an illustrious son of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha, that has been earned the respect of all by his conduct and pragmatics leadership apprach which has brought peace and equal participation into Ikono. He emerged the political leader of Ikono through the unanimous decision of stakeholders of Ikono including PDP Stakeholders, Elders, women and youths and he is not struggling with anybody for the position as peddled by mudslingers in the said article.

“Obong Ukpong-udo as a member of the PDP has remained focuse, committed to the ideals of the party and has worked assiduously for the success of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikono Local Government Area. In 2015 elections, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo proved his mettle as the Political Leader of Ikono by ensuring that PDP delivered 100 per cent in all the eleven wards of Ikono. He has not in any way involved in activities that are contrary to the growth of the PDP in the State”.

The Ikono Stakeholders further posited that “ Obong Ukpong- udo has in his capacity given effective leadership politically to Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha Ward 8 and Ikono Local Government Area in totality. There is no rancor, acrimony, and political discord in Ikono and Ward 8, justifying that those claims stated in the article are mere imaginations of the author which are baseless and unfounded”.

The Elders Council of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha and the PDP Stakeholders in Ikono declared their continuous support to the leadership of Obong Emmanuel UkpongUdo as the political leader of Ikono and assured him of their cooperation to continue to stabilize the politics of the area.

“We shall continue to give the necessary support to Obong Emmanuel Ukpongudo as our political leader and cooperate with him to offer the right leadership to Ikono. We therefore call on those political philistines who are out to tarnish the hard earned reputation of our dear son and brother, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-udo to desist from further attempts to demean the revered reputation of our Leader and join hands with him to build Ikono.

We thank our dear Governor Udom Emmanuel, and the People Democratic Party for the confidence reposed on our leader. We further assure the Governor and the PDP that Ward 8, the vote basket of Ikono and Ikono at large shall continue to remain a stronghold the PDP in the years ahead”, the release stated.

The release called on members of the public to discountenance such publication, describing it as figment of imagination of the author and handiwork of mercantile writers.

“We, the Ikono Stakeholders, Elders Council of Ndiya/Usung Ikot Idaha and the PDP Stakeholders of Ward 8 Ikono hereby call on members of the public to discountenance this publication. Persons and organizations mentioned in the said article are fictitious, faceless and unfounded. The publication is nothing but a figment of imagination of hatchet mercenary, whose stock-in-trade is to cast dark tar on peoples’ reputations, assassinate their characters to satisfy selfish interests of their paymasters. We therefore say enough of this blackmail”, the group said.
