The Forum believes that similar to other major economies in the world with lesser land mass and population than that of our dear state, we must leverage our gifts of land, water, labour and markets to become a global agricultural powerhouse.

The forum also believes that Smallholder farmers hold the key to our agricultural future and that by providing these smallholder farmers access to enhanced, high quality, cost-effective training, financial services, agricultural inputs and marketing services, Akwa Ibom State economic future will be secured.

The Challenge
Low economies of scale
Akwa Ibom smallholder farmers remain poor due to several factors including but not limited to land fragmentation, broken value chains, poor access to finance, inadequate cash flow, lack of extension services, and limited access to good markets. These factors create low economies of scale that systematically keep farmers in a cycle of poverty

The Dakkada Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Model
The Dakkada Business Forum’s Multi-purpose cooperative model overcomes a key underlying structural problem that keeps Akwa Ibom smallholder farmers poor, which is low economies of scale. Utilizing a sustainable private sector model, The Akwa Ibom State Government through the Dakkada Business Forum provides cost effective end-to-end services to a network of Dakkada Multi-purpose cooperative societies.

The Dakkada Business Forum mobilizes its members from a poll of Dakkada Ambassadors, group them into clusters of 25 members each and register them as Multi-Purpose cooperatives societies with emphasis on Agribusinesses, provides tailored and cost effective end-to-end professional training, input, credit and marketing services while the Cooperative Societies adhere to the Forum’s advises and benefit from services to increase yields and profits.

Four key services required for smallholder farmers to be successful are provided as follows:
