The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel has charged students in the State to avoid cultism, prostitution, examination mal-practice and other forms of immoral acts but should rather strive to excel in their academics.

Governor Udom gave the charge yesterday during the official flag off of Students Social Services Volunteer Scheme organized by the SA to Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Aquilla Otobong Akpan to mark this year's International Students Day at Ibom Hall.

"It is time for Akwa Ibom Students to do away with Cultism, prostitution and other forms of immoral acts as it will not lead you to any way but would rather destroy you."

The Governor maintained that his administration will always endeavour to provide safe atmosphere for students across the state.

The Governor who spoke through the Head of Civil Service, Mrs Ekerebong Akpan, commended Comrade Otobong Akpan for putting up such an epoch-making event to mark this year's International Students Day while urging her to try as much as possible to sustain the program as it will help engage students in providing some social services in the state.

He thanked the students for their unalloyed support towards his administration and solicited for more cordial relationship between the government and the students.

Giving her keynote address, Dr. Mrs Mina Ogbanga on the theme, "Students Volunteerism And Sustainable Development", said that volunteerism is giving social services wholeheartedly to the society without any financial benefit in order to add value to ones life.

Mrs Ogbanga, who is the Country Director, Center for Development Support Initiatives, noted that passion is what enhances volunteer services.
