Gov's Wife Tasks LG's Committee Chairmen


The wife of Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel has challenged Local Government Transition  Committee Chairmen in the state to shift the paradigm, and initiate life touching programmes that will add value to lives in their localities, which will in turn help in the speedy development of the grassroots.

Mrs. Emmanuel gave the charge today October 5th, when she hosted Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Transition Chairmen Forum who came on a solidarity visit to her office.

The Governor’s wife who pointed out that the Local government remains the closest to the people at the grassroots, advised the Chairmen to liaise with stakeholders in order to deliver quality services to their constituents at their domains.

The First Lady charged them against abusing their roles as partners in progress at the grassroots level; urging that they should complement the Governor’s efforts in the delivery of quality leadership in their domains.

She noted that despite the paucity of funds in the country, it is necessary for them to come up with programmes that will have impact the people positively, saying that true leaders emerge during hard times and expressed her readiness to work with them to touch lives at the grassroots.

As leaders at the grassroots, the Governor’s wife ask that they sensitize their wards on the need for proper medical checkup to ascertain their health status, stating that statistics shows that HIV/AIDS pandemic is still at a very high rate in the state and the country at large.

Earlier, the Transition Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area Prince Ubong Idiong who also doubles as the group’s chairman, thanked Mrs. Emmanuel for granting the group audience despite her tight schedule and for the giants’ strides recorded by her pet project in giving succor to the needy.
He added that their visit was to show solidarity and support to the noble initiative of the Governor’s wife, promising as a group to support and stand by her husband beyond 2019.

While recalling that FEYReP within one year has recorded huge successes in alleviating poverty in the land, Prince Idiong promised that as a group, they will partner with the vision of FEYReP to touch lives in their respective areas. 

He on behalf of the group donated over 200 wrappers to the governor’s wife to support her project.
Among those on the visit were, Barr. Emmanuel Udosen, Abak Transition Chairman, Barr. Samuel Udokoh, Ukanafun Transition Chairman and Hon. Udeme Eduo, Etim Ekpo Transition Chairman.
Others were Hon. Inibehe Silas, Ika Transition Chairperson, and Barr. Paulinus Idio, Essien Udim Transition Chairman as well as Hon. David Umana, Ikot Ekpene Transition Chairman.

Also on the visit were, Hon. Emmanuel Amama, Obot Akara Transition Chairman, Elder Israel Idaisin, Ini Transition Chairman and Hon. Itoro Columba, Ikono Transition Chairman.
