During the first anniversary of the Dakkada Philosophy in Akwa Ibom State, the Directorate of Marketing and Brand Management announced the successful mobilization of over 15,500 Dakkada Ambassadors across the state.
In its drive towards a re-birth of entrepreneurship and professionalism, and to gainfully engage some of the ambassadors, the Dakkada Business forum - a platform where entrepreneurial minds share ideas, experiences and proffer solutions to problems affecting small/medium businesses in the state - was created. To assuage the zeal of members and and promote professionalism in entrepreneurship, Dakkada Multipurpose Co-operative Societies were set-up across the state. Each of the Cooperatives comprises 25 members owning a minimum of 1000 shares.
The first phase of the project has 31 Cooperatives (one in each of the Local Government Areas) in the state. The Cooperatives are embarking on a common project which is the cultivation of improved species of maize, cassava and melon on 62 Hectares of land. A total output of 250 tons of Maize, 1,550 tons of cassava tubers and 24.8 tons of melon is expected after the first year of this exercise, with planting to commence this month.
These were disclosed during a management and training session organized by the Directorate Of Marketing and Brand Management for the Executives (comprising the Presidents, Vice-Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers of each) of the Cooperatives.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Marketing & Brand Management, Mr. Ime Uwah who is also the Project Supervisor, thanked his boss, the Executive Governor of the State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for facilitating the CBN/State Loans Scheme in the state, through which the co-operative have been able to access an interest-free loan of N1m each to implement these noble projects.
Mr Uwah also announced that the Dakkada Business Forum Cooperative project aims at registering a total of 310 MPCS by September 2018, and believes that with these, the total output of crop cultivation in the state will attract investment to the state. He enjoined all Akwa Ibomites to support and key into the project initiated by the co-operatives.
