In the spirit of the 29th Anniversary celebration of the creation of Akwa Ibom State, two Paramount Rulers, Edidem Etim Charles Abia of Eket Local Government Area and Edidem Christopher Atat Nkan of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, have been presented with staff of office.
Addressing the Royal Fathers shortly after the presentation of the staff of office at the Banquet Hall, Government House - Uyo, the state Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel charged them to bear true allegiance to the oath and staff of office and strive to maintain peace at all times in their domain.
He thanked the people for the peace and tremendous support given his administration and felicitated the people on the occasion of the 29th Anniversary celebration of the state creation.
Governor Emmanuel congratulated the Chairman Traditional Rulers Council His Royal Majesty Edidem Effiong Bassey Achanga, for the significant reforms and orderliness exhibited in piloting the affairs of the Traditional institution and assured them of his commitment to the improvement of their welfare.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Victor Antai expressed appreciation to the Governor for his magnanimity of reviewing upward the stipends of the Royal fathers, security votes and other packages that have made life comfortable for them the custodians of traditional institution.
The Chairman Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty Edidem Effiong Achanga used the occasion to congratulate the Governor on the 29th Anniversary of the state creation and for swearing- in new Paramount Rulers into the council.
He particularly thanked Governor Emmanuel for approving reforms in the council and upward review of their stipends as well as their allowances and requested for vehicles for the new Paramount Rulers and Clan Heads saying this would enable them discharge their duties effectively.
Edidem Achanga who took a swipe at the various negative publications against the Governor described it as the handiwork of the misinformed who are being sponsored by those he described as over zealous power seekers.
He pledged the Council's commitment to partner the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel to succeed in the industrialization and development of the state.
