INFO COMMISSIONER'S WIFE LAUNCH FREE SKILLS ACQUISITION

The wife of Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Maureen Aniekan Umanah has identified building stronger family values and expanding economic stability in the rural communities through training in special skills as apt and needful especially in the face of dwindling economic fortunes in the country.She made this known when she launched the free skills acquisition program of the Divine Restoration Foundation in Abak for rural women and youths of the area, a scheme aimed at giving a boost to the economic fortunes of the people. 

Addressing beneficiaries of the scheme, Mrs. Umanah who is also the CEO of the Billboard World Communications Group promised to annually sponsor the programme to enable her reach more people, but reminded them of the need to be instruments of blessing to people around them, noting that no wealth serves better than that which lifts people from poverty.The programme which is fully sponsored by her, is one of the many initiatives to better the lives of the less privileged members of the society, through regular reach outs and palliatives to help cushion the socio cultural effect of the downward economy on women and children. 

Hinging her motivation on successes recorded by Governor Udom Emmanuel's DAKKADA initiative and the governor's wife pet project, the Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Programme (FEYReP) Mrs. Umanah stated that the idea behind the free skills acquisition scheme was in support of Their Excellency's strides in maximally revamping the economic base of the state through citizen's empowerment.She promised her commitment to ensuring they not only complete their trainings, but get startup funds and equipments to enable them generate income from what they are trained in, to live happy and meaningful lives where they can contribute to the socioeconomic growth of the state. 

She commended the proficiency of the resource personnel drawn from different part of the country and expressed her belief that at the end of the programme participants will be able to put what they were taught to practice thereby domesticating such expertise in the area, and promised to expand the scope and contents of the training in subsequent editions.
Speaking, the Director Global Human Development Initiative and Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Wisdom Jerome thanked Mrs Umanah for her ingenuity and magnanimity towards sponsoring the scheme which has seen to the training of 50 people in various skills of farming and feed production, catering, event decoration and management, cosmetology, tailoring and design, photography and videography as well as motoring and driving.
