By Edidiong Udobia : When someone succeeds where pundits and critics expected him to fail, in the words MI Abaga, "bad belle is allowed".
As we all know, Mr. Thomas started doubting since days when Jesus Christ turned water to wine, raised Lazarus from the grave, healed the blind Bartimaeus, rose from the grave after three days, etc. Mr. Thomas may be dead and gone but his descendants abound on earth today and are still in the doubting Ministry, even more committed and dedicated than their ancestor. In 2013, Elder Patrick Albert, rode to the seat of the state chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, on the back of a successful 'Rebirth' campaign where he convinced majority of the members, 'beyond every reasonable' to vote him; it's been 2years, 6months and some days since Elder Albert was sworn-in to office.
Without mincing words, as a keen follower of the Patrick Albert led administration, I say it with confidence that Elder Patrick Albert started giving account of his stewardship the day he assumed office. Hence, in less than 5months to the end of the administration, the proper question to the Patrick Albert administration is "how well has it performed?" Good enough, during his campaign, Elder Albert made his vision and plans for the Union known to everybody through his manifesto (which l believe, a few members still have a copy). Now, if anyone has any doubt in Elder Patrick, it is only right and fair, that such doubt should be based on Patrick Albert's failure to fulfil his rebirth promises, else such doubt is unreasonable.
So far, the NUJ boss has proved his critics wrong on many occasions. From the groundbreaking of NUJ International Press Center, a project, many had swore will never see the light of the day to Patrick Albert's several appeals to the government to construct the Information Drive, which many thought his appeals, like those of his predecessors, will yield no result. Today, the mini club house of the Press Center is completed and ready for use while work at the office complex is advancing. Against the wish of the doubting Thomases, the government has commenced the construction of the Information Drive. It will futile effort to start counting Patrick Albert's achievements since assuming office because whatever has been, has been and whatever will be, will be.
However, it will be out of place if l end this piece without putting it on record that Patrick Albert has disappointed everyone who wished he will fail. The truth is, Patrick Albert's administration so far has been largely successful even with all the setbacks. From where I stand, Patrick Albert has convinced every unbiased mind, beyond every reasonable doubt, that the Union made the right choice on August 1, 2013. But if the incessant attacks on the NUJ chairman is about the August 1, 2016 NUJ elections, my candid opinion is, if Patrick Albert wish to re-contest, he will re-contest and if it is the will of God for him to win, Patrick Albert will win. No amount of doubt, reasonable or unreasonable can stop him.
