It was a great day of joy an excitement on Easter Monday, as the entire students of Akwa Ibom state origin under the auspices of The National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students Worldwide (NAAKISS worldwide) turn out en-mass to pass their unwavering vote of confidence on their immediate past Leader, Hon. Comrade Cyril Umoren during their annual national congress in Uyo,on the 28th of March 2016.
The event which had in attendance the entire chapter executives of the association worldwide, principal officers, past student leaders and members, witnessed a very successful national congress meeting and a peaceful transition of power to a newly constituted Interim National Government to pilot the affairs of the most revered Association.
Hon. Comrade Cyril Umoren during is opening remarks, took time to give details about his struggles, progress and achievements during his years of reign as the President of NAAKISS worldwide.
In his words, "For so many occasions I have been challenged to sell out your mandate to certain persons who don’t have the goodwill of leadership and selfless representation of the people."
‘Today, I want to announce to you that during the trying period, I stood my grounds of loyalty to the Chapter Presidents who found me worthy to be the Worldwide President, to protect and secure every right of Akwa Ibom State students, therefore I have come to hand over the mantle of leadership to the same people that gave me the opportunity to serve them, He added.
The quest to hand-over power to successive administration was greatly achieved as the newly constituted interim government led by Comrade Usen Johnson was inaugurated and sworn-in by the Legal Adviser, Barr. Anthony Ekpe, with the charged to organise free and transparent election within their four months reign as ascribed in NAAKISS constitution.
The highlight of the event was the declaration of interest to serve the good people of Mkpat Enin LGA as the elected Executive Chairman in the upcoming local government polls by the immediate past leader, Hon. Comrade Cyril Umoren.
In a unanimous resolution, the entire members of the student’s body rose to pass vote of confidence and endorsed Comrade Cyril Umoren as their sole candidate to represent the Student’s slot in the leadership position due to his years of tested loyalty, competence, accountability, transparency and hardwork. It will be recalled that Hon.comrade Cyril Umoren is the immediate past Supervisor for Political,Legislative and chieftaincy affairs in the last Ephraim Akpan elected administration in Mkpat Enin LGA.
Currently he is the senior special assistant to the transition chairman of Mkpat Enin LGA on public affairs and strategy. On the floor of the National Congress of NAAKISS worldwide a unanimous vote of confidence was also passed Rt.Hon.Onofiok Akpan Luke as Speaker Akwa Ibom State house of assembly,recalling his contributions to the association even while he was chairman house committee on education before his meteoric and unstoppable rise to the deserved position of Speaker of Akwa Ibom State house of assembly.
The Chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Comrade Cyril Umoren thanked and appreciated the students for their unanimous endorsement,and called on the Students to support the erudite Governor Udom Emmanuel on all his transformation agenda.
He also extended his sincere appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for education Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan whom he said had been a pillar behind him in the dying days of his administration.he promised to bring to bear all his years of leadership experience in running people oriented government that will cater for the immediate social amenities and create a conducive environment that will attract investors to the area.
