PLOT TO RELOCATE ACADEMY FROM ORON TO BADAGARY THICKENS
UNTOLD MARGINALIZATION, ORO NATION CRIES OUT
Barely two months since the Minister of Transport, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi appointed Anthony Anayo Ishiodu as the Ag. Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, following the demise of the Rector, Amb. Joshua Enun Okpo who died in December 8, 2015, things have fallen apart in the institution.
Engr. Ishiodu until his recent elevation was the Head of Department, Marine Engineering. Upon his assumption of duty on 19th December, 2016, the story of the Academy began to change from the perception of what a lot of people used to think, see and hear. It is no longer news that the Ag. Rector, Engr. Ishiodu has derailed from the ethics and guidelines of Civil Service which is the primary principle of administration that must be followed and adhered to strictly.
The attention of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has been drawn to some unhealthy ethnic suppression and divisive policies that have undermined the confidence and credibility of the teeming management staff of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron. This has for some months caused disaffection and chagrin among members of staff and already the pace of commitment to duty is no longer obtainable in line with the underlying rules and regulation that govern civil servants.
Impeccable sources reports reveal that clandestine and sentimental meetings by a clique who have hitherto hijacked the administration of the Academy for the ultimate purpose of suppressing and oppressing their perceived enemies who are primarily the indigenes of Oro nation in Akwa Ibom State. Reports from different reliable sources have it that series of meetings have been held and chaired by the Bursar of the Academy, Mr Folorunsho Adetunji Kayode whose tenure in office had long expired in September, 2014 but still continuing in office. The said clandestine meetings are usually held in the office of Director of Works and Services, Engr. Jide, and in most cases his official residence and attended by almost all the Senior Staff from the South West zone of Nigeria without the knowledge of some perceived Senior Staff from Oron. This is outright malpractices of the highest order as it is irresponsible and very unethical.
THE PROBLEM OF NOMINAL ROLL
Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron has a nominal roll which was arrived at by a team of consultants hired by the Late
Rector, Amb. (Dr) Joshua Okpo. The same nominal roll had been in existence for the ten years of Mr Nseyen Ekanem Ebong as the Rector. An indigene of Akwa Ibom who was appointed a Director of School and appeared in the nominal roll as the most Senior Director was all of a sudden moved from number four to number 11. This happened immediately Engr. Anthony Anayo Ishiodu took over as Ag. Rector of the Academy. The nominal roll was doctored and mutilated by Engr. Ishiodu to suit his biased style of leadership. The appointment of a Director made by the Governing Council was reversed to Senior Lecturer. Does this follow the ethics of Civil Service? Absolutely No!
The nominal roll which copies have been forwarded to the Ministry of Transport every quarter for the past 15 years was in order and the Ministry saw nothing wrong with it not until the emergence of Ishiodu as the Ag. Rector, everything is wrong with it. How can the Ministry justify this?
The management of the Academy does not have the legal right by whatsoever means to upturn or reverse an appointment made by a previous Governing Council without recourse to the Council in session. Is the management of the Academy now above the Governing Council? The same management has not upturned or reversed the appointment of the Bursar, Mr Folorunsho Adetunji Kayode who was also appointed by the Governing Council even when his tenure had long expired in September, 2014. Why is the Acting Rector playing politics with such a sensitive position of this magnitude? This is a gross oppression and suppression of the Oron people. If the action or decision of the management is void of sentiment, then the Bursar should also be reduced in rank to Deputy Head of Bursary to feel the humiliation and brunt as well
.
ACTING RECTOR, A MISFIT FOR MARITIME ACADEMY
Let it be on record that the Ag. Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Mr. Anthony Anayo Ishiodu is not qualified. His credentials are questionable and must be investigated and verified. He claims to be what he is not in the right sense of it. It is so fraudulent of him to put the government in false light over the years.
1.The PGD he claimed to have from Maritime Academy and Rivers State University of Science and Technology were not accredited by Nigerian Universities Commission.
2. His Master degree from University of Port Harcourt was not accredited by NUC. Even when he spent 12 years (2002-2014).
3. He is not an Engineer since he is yet to register with Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN whose members alone are authorised to be addressed as ‘Engr.’ Hence, he should be sanctioned for parading himself as an Engr when he is not "qualified" to answer the professional title. This is quackery at its oriented peak.
4. He indulges in the extortion of money from cadets with intimidation of failing those not willing to comply.
5. In 2000 while he was Assistant Dockyard Manager, he killed a certain Oron man from Ebughu by name Ita David Etangetuk alias “Boy with Sense” during one of his illegal deals and has no moral right to work in Oron land as the blood of the innocent man cries for justice.
6. His Ph.D was not approved by the management.
However, his inability to register with COREN has made management to hire resource persons to stand in on his behalf with attendant extra cost. Cadets have always complained that Anthony Anayo Ishiodu lacks the basic skills needed to lecture as they hardly understand him during class due to his poor communication approach and uncoordinated disposition. The Ag Rector should be considered for psychiatric evaluation because as a junior engineer onboard River Ogbese in India, 1986, he used ‘hammer’ to drive away Engr. Owolabi his Chief Engineer then out of engine room. Undoubtedly, his unruly, brutish, uncouth, vulgar behaviour still subsists.
The self acclaimed Engr. A. A. Ishiodu was appointed in 2000 as a Senior Lecturer without a Bachelor degree, without a Master degree in Marine Engineering, and without registration with COREN. This is not obtainable in any tertiary institution in Nigeria. Sadly, Ishiodu with a questionable class six certificate, Certificate of Competency (CoC), a trade certificate in Marine Engineering is ahead of somebody who was already a Senior Lecturer with a Master degree in her own area of specialization and registered with Professional Associations, and was even appointed before him. Even when he left Nigerian National Shipping as a junior engineer 15 years ago which he should earn about 25,000.00 (twenty five thousand naira), he is still enjoying Seafarers Allowance as one who has worked as a Chief Engineer with Chief Engineer Certificate of Competence. He should face the full wrath of the law for defrauding the government and compelled to remit the excesses he has accumulated for the juicy 15 years of insincerity unless he tenders evidence to prove otherwise.
Consequently, by tampering with a legimate appointment made by the Governing Council, the Ishiodu led Administration is sending a very clear message of hatred and ethnicity to the host community that he is in charge and that nobody dares his actions. Does he think that Oron people are afraid of him? They are not fools and will resist him in its totality within the ambits of the law should he indulges in any further attempt to underrate Oron indigenes in Academy by bringing them within the estimation of right thinking members of the public. The host community is patiently, anxiously awaiting the reaction of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, FMOT over Mr Ishiodu’s gross inadequacies, irregularities, insubordination and perceived misconduct, suppressive and oppressive tendency towards the good and peace loving people of Oron.
