Members of the Peoples Democratic Party at home and in the Diaspora, were last night, thrown into euphoria, when the news on the Supreme Court judgement, giving victory to the governor of River State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, filtered into the air.
However, the Apex Court judgement overrules the judgement of the Appeal Court which upheld the nullification of Wike's election by the Election Petition Tribunal.
Governor Wike had filed twenty grounds of appeal to the Supreme Court, alleging that the election tribunal relied on hearsay and inadmissible evidence to arrive at its judgment.
According to Governor Nyesom Wike, the tribunal had wrongly refused to follow the decision in Agbaje versus Ambode, which held that the use or non-use of card reader cannot be a ground for questioning or nullifying an election.
Justice Kudirat Kekere- Ekun set aside the Appeal court judgement which nullified his election. It was a unanimous decision by a 7 man panel of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court judgement did not go down well with the APC family in Akwa Ibom State, especially its governorship candidate, Mr Umana Okon Umana.
The APC members in the State, had since predicted that whatever transpired in the Rivers State would be a replica of what will happen in the judgement involving Mr Udom Emmanuel of the PDP and Umana Okon Umana of the APC.
Some political appointees as well as dire hard supporters of the PDP in the State in a telephone interview with The TOWN CRIER, divulged that, a good number of APC bigwigs had started calling them (those in PDP), on phone, expressing sadness over the Rivers State judgement and as well, asked to be carried along henceforth.
One of the media Aides to the APC candidate in the State, Mr Umana Okon Umana, who chose to speak on anonymity, informed our reporter that his principal, got the heartbreak of his life, when the judgement was made.
The informant maintained that Obong Umana's hope was hanging on the outcome of the Rivers' judgement.
"My brother, the way he (UOU) sounded this night, I'm afraid he might call Udom or possibly organize a meeting were two of them would sit and agree before their judgement at the Supreme Court", Umana's media aide submitted.
Meanwhile, the date for the Supreme Court judgement in the case between Mr Udom Emmanuel and Umana Umana, we learnt would not exceed February 16.
