In the spirit of the season, inmates of Uyo and Ikot Abasi Prisons have received a boost as the wife of the Akwa Ibom state governor and initiator of Family Empowerment and Youth Reorientation Program (FEYReP) today visited the reformative centers where she donated cash, food and relief materials.
Represented by the wife of the speaker Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mrs. Uduak Onofiok Luke, Mrs. Emmanuel said her visit was to share in the spirit of the season with the inmates stating that even though they have been confined, they were not rejected citizens . She noted that Jesus being the reason for the season loves and cares for them, imploring the inmates not to give up on life irrespective of the situation they have found themselves.
The first lady also charged the inmates to imbibe the ‘dakkada’ spirit of believing in their greatness stating that life behind bars does not mean they cannot be useful citizens again.
In appreciation, the Deputy Controller of Ikot Abasi Prisons, Mrs. Josephine Ogbeifun and Deputy Controller in charge of Uyo Prisons, Rev. Ben Freedman expressed their sincere gratitude to the governor’s wife for her liberal benevolence to the inmates of prisons this yuletide, praying that God will reward her labour of love. While promising to judiciously use the gift items, they however solicited for more assistance from government in the renovation of the prisons saying the centers were in deplorable conditions
Also visited were Qua Iboe church leprosy hospital, Ekpene Obom and Government Transit camp, Shelter Afrique where the governor’s wife also donated cash and food items to the hospital and home respectively. Mrs. Emmanuel thanked the Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Affia Affia and the matron of the home, Mrs. Comfort Umoh for dedicating their lives to take care of the vulnerable in the society, praying that God will reward their labour of love.
Responding respectively, Dr. Affia Affia and Mrs. Comfort Umoh thanked Mrs. Emmanuel for her kind disposition towards their constituencies saying that within few months in office, her impact on the social disadvantaged has already been felt. They prayed God to sustain her and the Governor in the discharge of their duties. ###
