UDOM EMMANUEL, IMOH OKON ENDORSED FOR ELECTION IN UYO

…as group passed vote of confidence on Gov. Udom

Ahead of November Local Government elections, Uyo Senatorial Vice Chairman of PDP, Mr. Imoh Okon, has been unanimously endorsed to run for Chairman of Uyo by the people of Ward 9 in Uyo Local Government Area yesterday.

The people took the decision at a general ward meeting held at the Ward Centre, Ikot Offiong village, where they also unanimously adopted Gov. Udom Emmanuel as their candidate in 2019 Election and Mr. Imoh Okon as their sole candidates for the election.

The motion for the endorsement was moved by Hon. Unwana Young, the immediate past Councillor from the Ward without any objection and seconded by the erstwhile Ward 9 Leader Mr. Friday Nkang.

The people scored Governor Emmanuel high in effective governance, prudent management of resources, delivery of dividends of democracy to Uyo LG, the senatorial district, and State at large.

The people called on stakeholders to stand for justice by supporting Ward 8 in the Chairmanship position in the Local Government elections, on the grounds that the Ward has not produced Chairman since the creation of Uyo Local Government Area and its their turn.

Hon. Uwana Young charged the people to support Governor Udom Emmanuel adding that Eket senatorial District must rule till 2023.

While presenting records of Imoh Okon, Hon Unwana said:

“I’m not contesting any election or looking for any appointments for now. My joy is to unite the people for future political growth. We all know that Gov. Udom Emmanuel is contesting for second term and we need to come together so we can support him

“it was concluded that chairmanship position should go to ward eight for the sake of unity. It is a clear fact. If you know someone that is contesting and the person is not from ward eight, please advise him not to spend his money”

“My brother and sister, please support Hon. Imoh Okon. He is our collectively adopted PDP candidate for the election in Uyo Local Government. He is presumably the sole candidate. Other political groups and wards are supporting him so we can’t be exception. I am giving you a privileged information that Imoh Okon is yours next chairman” he added.

He thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for appointing their son Mr. Ekere Afia as member of board, stressing that the people would resist any attempt by infiltrators from other wards to compromise the peace and oneness that have existed in the ward for many years now.

In his part, the immediate past ward Chairman, Mr. Friday Nkanga, commended the people of ward nine for being the first in the entire local government area to organize the solemn assembly, saying the prayers and activities at the event would go a long way to turning round the fortunes of the ward and the local government area in general.

He frowned at the activities of some stakeholders who are fond of influencing election of councillors to fan the embers of disunity and conflict, urging the people of ward eight not to take laws into their hands by planning revenge.

The immediate past councillor Hon. Unwana promised to ensure that such issues of one installing leaders against the wish of the entire ward do not take place.

He called on the people to continue to support the governor to deliver more and better dividends of democracy to them.
