Power Play: Senator Anietie Okon Stalls Inauguration Of Itu Transition Committee

The power play in Itu LGA is heading to a crescendo with the stalling of the inauguration of the Itu Transition Committee. With the sack Elsie Esara, a protégé of the Senator over the funds embezzlement scandal, Fortune Archibong Umoh a supporter of Prince Idongesit Ituen, the House of Assembly Member was announced as the Chairman of the new transition committee.

TheMail gathered from multiple sources that the announcement of Fortune got Senator Okon very infuriated, prompting the senator to put a call across to the governor to register his displeasure. The senator was said to have told the governor that he won’t take such humiliation. The governor however calmed the fuming Okon by promising urgent action would be taken.

Few hours to the inauguration, the governor directed the Secretary to the state government, Sir Etekamba Umoren to announce that the inauguration of the ITU transition committee has been postponed.

Etekamba Umoren issued a press release thus: “This is to inform the general public and all concerned that the inauguration of Itu Local Government Transition Committee has been suspended till further notice. Inconveniences arising thereof is highly regretted. A new date will be announced in due course”.

TheMail gathered authoritatively that Okon had gone to sleep thinking that the name of his nominee for the position had sailed through but he was outsmarted by the political scheming of Ituen who is said to be battling for the political leadership of the area with Okon.

Others who were in the Transition committee was Aniefiok Sunday Udo who was to serve as secretary
while Daniel Archibong Edem, Patrick Ekpenyong, Nnamnno George Inyang, Ubong Unam, Udeme Utip,  Akan Essien, and Ukpono Nta were to serve as members.
