…As Works Commissioner Promises Project Completion In 30 Days
AFTER the no fewer than six months ultimatum given to occupants of residential houses and other buildings erected on the right of way in Eket main town, to vacate to make way for the ongoing remodeling of the city, Akwa Ibom State government, Tuesday, finally swung into action.
However, checks by The Town Crier Newspapers revealed that, most of the affected owners were adequately compensated to vacate their buildings, but after such monies were received, they refused to relocate.
Commissioner for Works, Akpararwa Ephraim Inyang, who supervised the demolition exercise, divulged to newsmen that Governor Udom Emmanuel, in his determination to deliver on his campaign promise to redevelop Eket metropolis, gave the marching order for work to proceed without delay.
Akparawa Inyang, who emphasized that, owners whose properties were demolished were notified ahead of the exercise, promised to deliver a benefiting job completed with the state of the arts roundabout to the people of the area.
“His Excellency the governor (Mr Udom Emmanuel )has given us 30 days marching order that he needs to see a new environment in Eket. As the Ministry supervising the project, we have also given a marching order to the Contractors handling the job; NigerPet Structures, that government won’t entertain excuses. They’ve received money, they’ve got adequate space, it therefore means that at the expiration of 30 days, we should be back to Eket, to hand over a very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing environment to the people who voted massively for their governor”, said the Commissioner.
Giving further insight into the project, the Commissioner hinted: “What is in the design is a beautiful garden. A sit out where people can come and relax after day’s engagements and admire a beautiful fountain that will be working here twenty four-seven”.
On the significance of the remodeling and construction, the Works Commissioner assured that, “by the time we finish the entire work here, we would successfully linked Eket town to the dualized road at Eket-Ibeno…and by that time, the flood problem that has ravaged this town for years, will be a thing of the past”
