The Villages of Asanting Atan and Etok Iton in Ibiaku Clan of Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State came alive on Wednesday as the Transition Committee Chairman of Ikono Local Government Council, Mr Itoro Columba presented a 300kva electricity transformer that will connect the villages to the National grid.

Receiving the transformer on behalf of the communities, the Village Heads of Asanting Atan and Etok Iton in their separate remarks, thanked the Transition Chairman whom they described as God sent, for salvaging them from the blackout the communities suffered in recent years.

Speaking further, the Village Heads appealed to the Council Boss to support the communities in stepping down the transformer. They highlighted the challenges confronting the communities to the Transition Chairman which included lack of portable water as well as access roads linking both villages which had since broken down.

They pledged their unwavering solidarity and unalloyed support to the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel and to their Transition Chairman in moving the state and local government area forward.

Responding, the Transition Committee Chairman, Mr Itoro Columba appreciated the State Chief Executive, Mr Udom Emmanuel for appointing him as Council Chairman which according to him came at the right time when the Local Government needed him most.

He admonished the communities to preach the Gospel of Governor Udom Emmanuel everywhere they go and maintained that the Governor is poised on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Akwa Ibom State.

Mr Columba urged the communities to protect the transformer from vandalization and pledged to support them in stepping down the transformer while assuring them of government intervention on the challenges confronting them.
