AFRICA NEED STRONG MEN AND STRONGER INSITUTIONS- EKONG SAMPSON

Special Adviser to Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Political, Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson has differed on a statement accredited to America’s Barrack Obama that Africa only needs strong institution and not strong men.
Barrister Ekong Sampson, during a round table discourse of intellectual-oriented politician under the auspices of Ibom Maga Alliance, in Uyo, having just strong institutions in not enough, without strong men to run them. He therefore postulates that “Africa needs strong men but stronger institutions”. This, he added, will ensure a balance, as it will enhance the efficiency of the system while also putting a check on persons.
To buttress his position, Ekong Sampson made reference to the successive regimes Akwa Ibom State has had. He stressed that the efforts of great Akwa Ibom sons like Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, who in a very short time gave Akwa Ibom State a permanent office address and a reputable event centre, Ibom Hall.

He said Obong Akpan Isemin cannot faulted for lunching a consciousness that Akwa Ibom people are a great people, against the hitherto diminutive mindset of “etok syndrome”, also within a very short time in office.

In his words, “whatever you say about past governments in the State, you can never fault the ingenuity of Arch. (Obong) Victor Attah who brought to bear the great vision that has translated into what we are seeing today as great Akwa Ibom.” He also said “not even the worst critic can convince me that Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio did not have courage. Akpabio brought courage to bare in governance.

If you see the quality of projects, such as the Stadium that is giving Akwa Ibom respect all over the country, that was courage.”
Barrister Sampson went further to expatiate on the Governor Udom Emmanuel Administration. He said, “now we have a Governor too who has one great asset –focus. Governor Udom Emmanuel is one who has a lot of focus, who likes to remain on track and get to the destination, despite difficulties or disparaging activities.
He said Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration by putting in place key drivers of development is demonstrating that Akwa Ibom deserves the best and has evidently brought the whole Nigeria to respect Akwa Ibom State. He further enumerated that Governor Udom Emmanuel has invested into the future of Akwa Ibom State by diversifying the flanks of the economy through agriculture, industrialization.
“Those of us who are privileged to work with His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel can attest to the depth of his vision, the vibrancy of his ideas and the originality of his thoughts. One way that Governor Udom has clearly shown that he is investing in our future is through diversification.

For so long this country has been depending on oil: we thought about oil, we dreamt about oil we lived for oil. When the economy nosedived into a tailspin, we were left at the mercy of the element. but through the visions of Governor Udom Emmanuel, through his passionate commitment to industrialization our Governor has shown clearly that he is investing in our future. I think this is how it should be.
