Last night, I was awarded Online Reporter of the Year at the NUJ award/dinner.
I feel absolutely elated to be honoured in such a special way. I may have to do expand my award cabinet soon but I hold this particular award in very high esteem. Why? Because it is coming from professional colleagues and my entries were screened and adjudged the best by my very revered ex lecturers in the Department of Communication Arts, Uniuyo. They say I'm the best in the cyberspace. 'Who be me' to disagree with them? Lol.
I dedicate this award solely to God. The reasons are glaring. He gave me the vision to birth TheMail Newspaper with a mandate to make it a different brand from what is obtained in this part of the globe. A brand that will stand out in excellence and professionalism. I'm certain that I haven't failed Him with my little efforts, though there is a big room for improvement.
Earlier in the year, TheMail (Print) won Newspaper of the Year and just few ago, I climbed the podium to receive yet another honour, this time courtesy of the online version of TheMail. It can only be God.
I thank my my readers, fans and friends. Without you, TheMail as a brand would not fly.
I thank all the Online Publishers in the state, especially those under the auspices of Coalition of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom (which I am privileged to lead) for their support and loyalty.
I appreciate all those who have contributed to my success in journalism, especially my boss turned friend and brother, Nsibiet John who gave me the first opportunity to practice, taking it upon himself to mentor and give me incredible encouragement.
Thank you all for supporting and believing in me. Certainly, I am (we are) climbing bigger podiums within and outside Nigeria to cart home more honours. See you at the top.
Ifreke Nseowo
Editor, TheMail Newspaper
