Cross River State governor, Senator Ben Ayade |
Joe Agi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and stalwart of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had dragged the incumbent governor, Ben Ayade, to court over alleged age falsification.
At the last sitting, the party withdrew its pleadings at the lower court and aligned with Agi’s submission, which seeks to unseat Ayade for alleging lying in his nomination forms in contravention to the ruling political grouping’s extant laws.
The Guardian learnt that the governor and some of his aides had relocated to Abuja ahead of the verdict.
It was also learnt that supporters on both divides had printed T-shirts in anticipation of victory while an unusual calm was noticed around the governor’s office although a celebration committee had been put in place. However, Christmas preparations were on.
A former Special Adviser to the governor, Ray Morphy, said: “Whatever be the outcome on Friday at the Supreme Court, the victory belongs to the people.”
