Not many evenings are like Friday December 2, 2016, where people despite the visit of the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Christian Church, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, for a crusade in Uyo, a multitude still found their way to Ikot Akpa Edet -Ndiya, Ikono Local Government Area, to celebrate with Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo on his birthday.
Speaking at the event, Obong Ukpong-Udo also known as Macaire expressed gratitude to God for sparing his life and that of his family to witness another of such days, taking to account the leap in his professional ascension as the workings of God's grace in his life.
He commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his effort in fulfilling his electoral promises, noting the much the state chief executive has achieved could not have been possible but for his ingenious mastery of financial management and resolute political will to extend dividends of democracy to every part of the state.
The Ikono born, reputed health & safety professional called on sons and daughters of the area to keep faith with the current leadership of the state, which he said meant well for the people, pleading on them to eschew bitterness and rancour among their ranks, as the only way to encourage development in the area.
Obong Emman Ukpong-Udo extended a call on those who were not satisfied with some of their representatives to keep faith with the culture of brotherhood which the area is known for, and not throw the baby with the bath water, promising to fashion ways to bring such leaders to account with the people, after due consultation.
In continuation of his philanthropic gestures to commemorate his 2016 birthday, the Ikono philanthropist presented some of Ikono Indigenes with gifts ranging from cash business empowerments, to cars, motorcycles as well as scholarships to some indigenes of Ikono.
Speakers at the event lauded the ingenious commitment of the celebrator to the welfare of all who come to him, describing him as one who has held the world of philanthropy spellbound and prayed God's blessing on him, family and endeavours.
Elders, women and youths from various clans in Ikono promised their continued support and loyalty to his leadership, as some political and socio-cultural groups adopted him as their patron, calling on other leaders to emulate his example.
The heavy human traffic that thronged his Ndiya residence after a novelty football match in his honour were treated to commend performances, food and drinks which lasted late into the night.
