Political Rascally : Why PDP senators stage a walk out today – Senator Akpabio

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State, now Senator Godswill Akpabio explains why senators elected under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, walked out of the Senate during today’s sitting.

He said lawmakers should not encourage political rascally were lawmakers defect to another party after being elected on a particular party.

He said any one who defects to another party must lose his seat according to the constitution.

“As lawmakers, Senators must not encourage political rascally. That is why PDP Senators today staged a walk out to protest the purported defection of Senator Yele Omogunwa who was elected on the platform of PDP but claimed he wants to defect to APC to support the Governor-elect of his state. The constitution is clear on this that if a Senator defects to another political party, he loses his seat.” Akpabio

It should however be noted that after the PDP senators left the floor of Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of Labour Party from Delta State was asked to assume as the new Senate Minority Leader.
