By Evelyn AFFIA: The Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen as promised the people of Akwa Ibom State that the state government will ensure that all ongoing road projects in the state are completed on time for the betterment of the citizenry adding that Governor Udom Led administration is aimed at providing positive solutions to the plight of the masses.
Mr Inyang-eyen said this during a 2-day on the spot inspection of ongoing road projects and sites that have been poorly affected by gully erosion in various local government areas in the state such as Ini, Ika, Abak, Etim Ekpo, Ikot Abasi and Etinan Eket Local Government.
He said; "Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration is going to tackle the gully erosion site and the ongoing road projects headlong in other for us to achieve and enjoy a standard road network in the state".
Inspecting the Etim Ekpo/ Ika Roundabout, the commissioner expressed displeasure on the state of the roundabout in which several souls had been lost and opined that the road would be expanded for sufficient space, noting that the double roundabout confuses a lot of people coming in to Akwa Ibom.
On his part, Etim Ekpo chairman, Rt. Hon. Udeme Eduo commended the Works Commissioner for deeming it feet to come with his team to assess the roundabout.
While in Ini local government area, the Works Commissioner noted that the area has no impact in terms of infrastructures adding that; "it is on this note that the Governor is flaging-off road project in Ikpe Ikot Nkon, Ini local government Area".
He acknowledged the fact that the roads could have been done earlier this year but is delayed due to the dwindling economy.
Mr Inyang-Eyen urged the youths of the area to be peace abiding and support the contractors to deliver the jobs on time.
On the Abak/Ikot Abasi road which is in a very terrible state, the he assured that prompt measures would be put in place to alleviate the sufferings of motorists who have been complaining about the deplorable state of the road in order to prevent the experience on calabar-Itu road.
On the issue of compensation to beneficiaries, he noted that all the demolished structures had be duly compensated for before time and that nobody should try to hold the government to ransom after they have been compensated and ordered to vacate their structures.
He therefore called on the masses to continue supporting Governor Udom Emmanuel's tremendous project as it is for the good every Akwa Ibom person.
Inspection team includes; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works; Dr Ifreke Ekpa, alongside Directors and Engineers from the Ministry.
