Honoray Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Labour Matters Hon. Unyime Usoro |
TOROBONG EKPO| From the perspective of a novice, It may not have been an occasion for the induction of the Political Leader of Urban ward three in Etinan.
The event was adorned with almost all the political bigwigs in the area namely: The Chapter Chairman of PDP, Hon. Inemesit Itina,The Transition Chairman, Hon. Cletus Ekpo, Obong Kingsley Peters, Special Advisers to the governor led by Hon. Uko Umoh, himself a native of the area, former councillors, all the PDP ward chairmen in Etinan and their Exco members, village head of Ikot Abasi Etinan among other dignitaries.
It was glaring, the political caterpillars had conspired to bestow on the immediate past NLC chairman, now Honorary Special Assistant to the governor on Labour, Hon. Unyime Usoroh, the political leader of the ward.
Prior to this era, the ward never had such privilege to have an occasion where the entirety of the ward unanimously agree to elevate a man into such portfolio.
The last, according to some natives was more or less a self acclaimed political leader who swallowed all the goodies meant for the ward as a result of the fact that he wasn't chosen by the people.
The political entity according to indigenes, is said to have been in dire need of a sincere leader having observed that the dividend of Democracy accrued to the ward via Rt. Hon. Sam Ikon had disappeared to thin air to the surprised of all and sundry.
Reliable source close to the corridor of Power had informed this writer that, Hon. Unyime Usoroh had tried in different fora to dodge from such position, thus, it was time to elevate him as he was equal to the task.
In his welcome address, Usoroh had commended the people of the area for standing by him throughout his chosen career and also supporting him since he became a politician and carefully stressed that, as a "good follower, he will follow the political terrain till he becomes expert where he can be sent on an errand".
Speakers after speakers spoke good of his gigantic strides and his ability to carry the people along in all scheme of things.
Hon. Uko Umoh popularly called Uko Biafra for instance posited that, if he could carry NLC along devoid of rancour, then, the political leadership of a ward was an assignment he could undertake without stress.
In all ramifications, Unyime Usoroh, was dodging until a voice vote was raised amidst all the attendees, including Kingsley Peters, Day by Day among other dignitaries.
Everyone responded in affirmative. there was no contrary opinion, hence Usoro was unanimously adopted and inaugurated as the Political leader of Urban ward three in Etinan Local Government Area.
This, in a nutshell is what transpired some weeks ago in Etinan. This was how a loyal and dedicated supporter of Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel led administration was elevated into an exalted position of becoming the political leader of Urban Ward three in Etinan.
Hon. Unyime Usoro is known for sincerity, uprightness and politeness. Starting from his days as the State Secretary of Nigeria Labour Congress till the present day, he has never been found wanting in leadership.
His lifestyle is one anyone willing to be successful in life should carefully study. His colleagues in NLC have maintained that he is so transparent, accessible and approachable.
This may have been the reason why he doubled as State Chairman of RATTAWU while also serving NLC in the capacity of chairman.
I think, Urban Ward three in Etinan LGA, has made a perfect choice via the appointment of Comrade Unyime Usoroh as the leader of the ward. It is quite glaring that his tenure will bring dividend of Democracy to the entire ward. A tenure where political goodies will be kept on the table for deliberation and sharing.
Coincidentally, he belongs to the school of PROFESSIONAL IN POLITICS. Someone who understands the needs of his people and willing to cater for them.
His character serves as a lesson for upcoming and old politicians. It is a pointer to the truth that, political leader could be bestowed not on how long one has been in politics but on how sincere the society knows the person.
