Recession: Federal Lawmaker ADVOCATES VOCATIONAL TRAINING

The member representing Etinan Federal Constituency in the National Assembly  Rt. Hon. Samuel Ikon has urged Nigerians to engage in vocational training as a way out of the current economy recession.

Ikon, who is also the chairman House of Representives committee on Inter-Parliameantary Relations advocated this during his visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa
Ibom State Council, Wednesday.

According to him, "People should stop the blame-game and look for a way out of this quagmire. We should be able to dissolve party lines and see how the country could come out of it.

"Vocational training becomes a very critical arm to wedge the economy by engaging people in profitable ventures," Ikon harped.

He called on stakeholders at various levels to add their quota in support of the course to cushion the dwindled economy by assisting people to earned and thrive in various vocations.

Our reporter said that Ikon's empowerment programme has provided items to indigenes in their respective vocations, through which value has been added to their livelihood.

Elder Samuel Ikon also elucidated his personal effort to alleviate the suffering faced by students both within and outside through his scholarship grant.

The Parliamentarian also said that he hopes to assist at least 500 more students in his academic grants by the end of December 2016.

He went further to say that the economic situation of the country with a great slide in value of Dollar to Naira has posed a serious challenge to the Scholarship programme for foreign students.

He promised to continue with the good gesture, though it is not mandatory for lawmakers as they were meant to make good laws for the well being of the citizenry.

The member urged Akwa Ibom students to make use of available foreign scholarship links which is publicized on his Facebook wall and other platforms.

He appreciated the Executive Governor of the State for utilizing his financial acumen in the management of the State.

Elder Samuel Ikon thanked the NUJ Akwa Ibom State for standing by him during his travails.

The NUJ Chairman, Akwa Ibom State, Elder Patrick Albert thanked the member for acknowledging the role of the media.

He maintained his stance for the Members of Parliament both in the State and National to be accountable to the masses.

Elder Albert appreciated the gesture of the lawmaker who he described as a pace setter and urged him to do more for the people as posterity will judge and reward him.
