It was more than a family meeting, but an accord discussion towards a bid to align the entire communities consisting of three villages of Ikot Abasi No. 1, Ikot Ekang and Ikot Udo Oto that make up Etinan Urban ward 3, unanimously elected Comrade Unyime Usoro as their new political leader with one strong voice to bring forth the dividend of democracy and rapid political representation to ginger democracy in Etinan and Akwa Ibom State in general.
The endorsement of Comrade Unyime Usoro as the Political Leader took place recently during the reception ceremony in honour of ward and chapter executives of the Peoples Democratic Party from Urban Ward three in Etinan Local Government Area.
The event which had in attendance political heavyweights, elders, women, youths, various groups and organizations from the ward and the local government area, was as well witness by the Special Assistants to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, Chairman of the Transition Committee for Etinan Local Government Area, Mr. Cletus Ekpo, the Chapter Chairman of the PDP in Etinan, Rt. Hon. Inemesit Itina as well as the Village Head of Ikot Abasi No. 1, Eteidung Uko Benson amongst many others.
According to John Maxwell who says “Everyone who achieves success in a great venture solves each problem as they came. They helped themselves and they were helped through powers known and unknown to them at the time they set out on their voyage. They keep going regardless of the obstacles they meet” verily among the numerous progress and sacrifice made in the past by Comrade Usoro was the restoration of electricity in Ikot Abasi No. 1 and the surrounding villages. This singular deed among surplus was benevolent to the common and ordinary man in the village.
It is indubitable fact that in every human organization or society, leadership has always been critical to the direction of development and progress. In times of conflict, the role of purposeful, focused and patriotic leadership can be invaluable to the survival of a people or community. We need leaders that are honest, who can mobilize and connect with the people with a high sense of passion to make a difference and capacity to take strong or tough decisions in the common interest.
In the past, the attitudinal and thinking faculties of Comrade Unyime Usoro is basically on selfless service and commitment to the development of the people and the society at large. He posited same with many great scholars in believing that people are the great asset. When he was the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, he never uses the heads of labour to his own advantage. He takes all along. No wonder the entire communities unanimously agreed that he should represent their voices in the political development of the state.
The essence of democracy is now valid and has given credence to the voice of the masses. All through his career trajectory, he has shown that if a sense of service, sacrificial giving of oneself for the good of others does not exist, and then we cannot lead. What this means is that leadership is "others-centered" behavior.
Other leadership habits I have found in my personal experience with him include humility, goal setting skills, mentoring and development of the generation next. These undoubtedly remain the key factors why he was unanimously elected to be the voice of the common man without any grudges or rancor. As a citizen, we must join hands and voices in making the development we anticipated for to become real and stable for now and future to come.
According to M.D. Arnold, a good leader leads the people from above them. A great leader leads the people from within them. Comrade Unyime Usoro has always been a grassroots mobilizer and the love of common man, even at the time he was the Chairman of State Labour Congress for so many years, he has always be living with the common and poor masses from his village, he never feel bad to associate with them, he live and eat with them in the same pot. At present, he is a number one grassroots mobilizer. A mobilizer no one can discredit.
He doesn’t belong to the ruling classes who were only popular at the city but not known at home, for Comrade Unyime abandoning his people was not an option. Today, these same people in their collective decision unanimously ratified that he should represent their voice as their political leader. I have read many books about leadership, many leadership styles that make a great leader, I have seen many of such positive factors in the name of Unyime Usoro, I was not consulted to write this piece but from what I have seen in him and his efficacy to right all wrong in any sphere of life, and in his determination to do what is right, I have seen Unyime Usoro as a true leader who has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others.
He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.

One of the truest tests of leadership is the ability to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency. As for Unyime, the entire communities have no fear to entertain, he carried the entire labour on his shoulder for many years with no single injury, I am confidently sure that to whom much is given better and perfect is expected.
He is the type that has proactive eness as a signature in his attitude. Today, the entire communities has done the needful by aligning themselves with someone who knows the problems associate with them and also have solution in every corner of the society.

The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers, this has been enunciated by the ever loving Comrade who has promised to carry everyone along, there is blessing in creating many leaders by showcasing enabling environment. Today, the youth of his community now has a road to their perfect future. When he was nobody, he did excellently well for the communities, now that he is their political voice, he will do better.
Following his emergence as the Ward Political Leader, his grassroots tenacity has been confirmed and he must be supported by well meaning people galvanize support to deepening our democracy for rapid development.
